You may be wondering who is the person behind the Ivana Helsinki Brand? Her name is Paola Ivana Suhonen born in Helsinki, Finland.
Ivana Helsinki is a beautiful brand that incorporates art, fashion and cinema. It is like a really great seventies song that takes you back to an era that you wish you could have been a part of. When I think of the seventies, I think of peace and love. I think of freedom and self-expression. I think child-like fun. The Spring/Summer 2014 Collection was showcased at Chelsea’s Studio 59 here in New York City. I wanted to go onto the runway and grab a couple of pieces and take them with me. But as you know that’s not allowed.
What I think stood out the most was the models dark lipstick and pulled back hair. It made you pay close attention to the embroidered patterns and fringe. I am very self conscious about my arms and what I loved most about the collection was that even though there were many sleeveless dresses the details took away from my trouble areas and the trouble areas I think most women deal with. It’s so hard to look together; feel comfortable and great about yourself and the Ivana Helsinki collection did that with a whimsical twist. But most of all it felt comfortable, sophisticated and completely unstuffy. These were pieces I could see myself wearing from day to night. You could wear them from season to season. You could wear them from city to city. What I love the most is that they incorporate sustainable pieces into their brand. It’s kind of like giving back and looking really great while doing it!
For some women this collection may be just what they needed while for others the fear to be a little playful with their wardrobe may keep them away. I love throwbacks to different era’s I tend to look through my grandmother’s closet and pull out accessories and pieces from way back when.
