Taking Better Care of Me

 

I have a problem.

I don’t eat.

Like, some days I go until 4 pm and realize, I haven’t eaten all day because I NOW have a headache.

And its not intentional… I sit in front of my computer all day, with coffee in hand pounding tirelessly at the computer getting work done. Most of the time, I finally eat around 1pm, but seriously, that is not even Kosher, especially when I have been up since 6:30 am.

HOWEVER, now that I am about to be on the better side of 30, my health is more of a focus than ever before. I have started taking supplements, drinking tons more water, and even created a schedule for getting myself away from the computer and into the real world. Whether relaxing in a good show, enjoying time with family and friends, or just time for me, I have managed to create some sort of structure in my life, and now I tackle one of the most important ones:

Eating right.

Now, my 10+ years competitively cheering has afforded me the knowledge to know that by NOT eating all day does MORE HARM than good, and that my lifestyle and work life has me more sedentary than I’ve been in my life.

Special K ChallengeSo when I was contacted by Shape and Special K to try this challenge, I knew this was a better time than not to get my eating habits together.  The most interesting part of this was when the site asked me what I wanted to gain when I ‘Lose.”

My Gain: A Greater Awareness of Personal Nutrition

On a mission to eat more regularly and to find a balance in my life, I signed up and created an account on Special K with my challenge to maintain my weight, as my focus is not to lose weight, but to NOURISH my body.

Making any kind of change is a challenge, as I believe you have to do something 21 times in order to create a habit…  (Don’t ask me where I learned this).  So I entered in my details to the site, my goals, and my preferred tastes and voila: A nice little meal plan made for me…

That part was easy!  Sticking to it, has been hard!  I love me some cereal and protein shakes, so this was quite welcomed!  I can say that this challenge has been definitely eye opening… which reminds me, it’s time for me to grab something to eat!

    Congrats on accepting and taking the challenge, Marie. I realized I wanted to make a change in February 2012. I began TSFL( Take Shape for Life). It has changed the calories I intake. It keeps be focused on staying active and setting goals that are realistic and achievable. Always remember when you do not eat and recharge for breakfast, your body remains in a “fasting” state. Fix your breakfast and eat while you are at your PC if needed. Cheers to our awareness and the best health and nutrition we can possess. :)
