Have you picked up the latest Vogue issue? You know the one with the amazing Beyonce on the cover, with the revered caption, “Real Women Have Curves: Beyonce at Her Best?” Well, I just received this issue, curious about the definitions and interpretation of Plus Size in the eyes of fashion’s elite. You see, this month’s Vogue issue was titled “The Shape Issue.†Underneath this title were captions: “Fashion for Every Figure from size 0-20.â€
I must say, this month’s edition did not fall completely flat for the Plus Size Curvy.Confident.Chic. Fashionista. While not completely amused, I was not falling over myself with the turn of every page either, especially since they did a “Nip Tuck: Designing a Perfect Body†article, which I find to be extremely hypocritical. But, they did an amazing story on both Beyonce and Adele! While I could celebrate and reference Beyonce, I must do what I am here to do- share the Plus Size perspective in the magazine!
Adele, along with Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, represented the “Curvy†women. While Christina’s piece was lovely, as she shared her bouts with high fashion, the red carpet, and her amazing accessory addiction, the real gem of a spread was Adele’s!
Did you see Adele at the Grammy’s? Donning a custom Barbara Tfank satin dress, Adele wooed me, as she was who I anticipated to see, knowing that Miss Anna Wintour had personally styled her for the event. This article illustrated her transformation “from ladette to lady†in preparation for this year’s Grammy’s.
As she addresses fashion and her voluptuous frame, Adele stresses that she likes to be more comfortable than anything else, adorning herself in “trapeze shapes, enveloping sweaters and cardigans… with leggings and ballet flats.â€
While I could go into more depth of a lovely and extremely piece of an article, I must say it is an amazing read, all fashion aside. But, what I do know is that this is definitely the Year of the Plus Size Fashionista!
